Hello Sam, was good to see you and Wilma!

It will also be good to see you at CC, that was my first race 3yrs ago!  Don't let CC put you off racing, I say that because it might rain, and it might be windy, and you might get fed up, best thing is try to stay with somebody to give the race a bit of "spice"! Big circuits can be lonely as we become spread out!

Thanks for the welcome guys....and thanks for the advice regarding trying to stick with someone on the big circuit..will do my best...I am expecting the first few races to hurt....So far my training consists of riding up Kop hill (site of the famous car hill climb) 7 minutes 30 secs up....and then scaring myself silly on the descent (55 seconds)

See you all soon!

Oh No!!!

You obviously didn't read BHPC Rule number 1 Sam...

Using the word "Tr*&ning" is punishable by having to recite the instructions for the timing system 100 times backwards in Chinese.

Around here "Training" is what Dave Tigwell does to get to races... He puts his bike on a train and then sits down with a Pasty....

I tend to agree with Ian about Castle Coombe.... but it is a LOT better if it's run the "wrong" way round... That way the chicane (downhill) gives us ...er... less fast riders something to look forward to every 10 minutes or so... Big smile

Usualy practice is to find the organiser and shout "Anticlockwise" until he says that's what he was going to do anyway...

By the way, do we have an organiser for Castle Coombe yet??

Hi Keith, i'm asking this in public rather as a PM as other people may be interested in the way points are calculated.

I was awarded 148 points yet i was 7th in classs (ok last in class), but shouldn't 7th place get more points?

I feel this may be crucial come Hillingdon 2 !!!

Cheers

Is a Challenge Jester really Sports Class??

If so that's the end of Sports Class (entry level...) I think.

Hmmm, 148 points does seem to be a bit mean for a day's overall placing of 7th in the Multi-track Faired class! But he didn't get 148 points for being seventh - he was seventh because he got 148 points.

A day's points are points are calculated on the placing in each race, and added together based on the point allocation for each race. In this case it was 1:3, or the points awarded in the first race made up 25% of the final score, and the points awarded in the second race made up 75% of the final score. In Ian's case the points awarded reflect that, unfortunately, he had a perfect storm of bad luck:
>Only took part in one race,
>This race only constituted 25% of the overall score
>He (I gather through no fault of his own) did not finish this race.

For those who are not aware, for each class in race the points awarded are 1000 for first place and for everyone else, 90% of the points awarded to the rider in front, ie:
1st: 1000
2nd: 900
3rd: 810
4th: 729
5th: 656
6th: 590
:
The non-linearness ensures that a higher placing within a race carries more weight than consistency - eg a first and third is better than two second placings. Consistency is awarded by taking part in more races, which brings us back to Ian's example. In his first race (20min+1 lap faster) he was 4th rider in Mf class. The other race in the same round (the slower one) had 2 riders who were ahead of him (ie had a higher mph). This put him into 6th place in the Mf class in the first round, so giving him 590 points. He did not take part in the longer race, so did not gain any points for this. So his final score for the day in the Mf class is:
590.49 * 25%   + 0 * 75% = 147.6, rounded to 148.

Simples!
