Some of you may know Aurélien Bonneteau from the World Championship last year at Monza, or from Jersey the year before - this friday he's making an attempt to set a new unfaired hour record at the velodrome in Bordeaux. He'll be aiming to better the the current WRRA record of 52.074km by using this very slick looking & minimal bike:

This bike looks faster than the M5 High Racer he set the WRRA record with - but will it and the rider be fast enough to beat the UCI's best effort record (56.375km) set by Chris Boardman?

If this happened, would it be a recumbent beating and upright, or a Frenchman beating an Englishman?

In the lax rules that BHPC have - I'd like to point out that it doesn't even have a brake as pictured - therefore would not be allowed to compete! Wink

strange shaped chain ring!  I wonder if the shape causes a an acceleration/deceleration as it's a fixie with no dereailleur to take up thetension/ slack, unless there is a tensioning device under the front of the seat out of view?

It's not a fixie, it's singlespeed.

There might be brake blocks (I can't see them) - Where are the levers?

There's a side image of the chain ring here,

and here's a vid of a more extreme truncated ring,

you can see the derailleur moving.

I asked the maker, it has no brakes but as it's for a record attempt where he is the only one on the track, it don't matter, I asked how he will stop, he said just coast and then grab the gaurdrail on the inside
