as it looks even less likely that I'm going to be racing this weekend, I'd be quite happy to organise a 100 miler for you..
Actually that sounds a lot more tempting than 45mins but maybe not the track for it.

Tt may not be pleasant standing around waiting for your turn, if we don't get a huge turnout does a single race of 90 mins with everyone in it appeal?
That way don't get cold and wet watching the "other race", younger riders can do a shorter span if they want to?
Any better suggestions?

Better

I think a mass start would be okay if not many people turn up Ian, but could get a bit congested with 40+ bikes going at different speeds? Worked well at Redbridge, but we only had 18 riders. I would think maybe 25 would be okay.

What do the faster guys think?

I'm not exactly one of the fast guys but I'd be up for a mass start race, the one area I can see some potential for interesting moments might be the approach to the hairpin, some jostling for racing line might be a touch entertaining.

25 strikes me as being perfectly manageable. As long as there aren't any repeats of last year's Unfortunate Scotsman award winning accident anyway!

thanks Geoff, bike is fine and I'm taking at least today in a more horizontal positon on the couch (sitting is a little uncomfortable )

thanks to Fards, the 100miler might be a little far now for this weekend in any light.

I'd like to "get some miles in", so a longer one is good with me.  I don't know the track, but I'm as happy overtaking people as I am waiting back.  In a longer race one can take their time to do so in safety.

Thumbs Up 120* min

(*we have an odd tradition of shortening races at the last second when lined up on the startline)

I agree with Geoff. A single race would be OK if not many turn up - I'd say 25 was the uppermost limit you'd want on that track and closer to 20 would be more comfortable. I'd definitely vote for a longer race in that case, as Howard says, so you can be more relaxed about hanging back - 90 mins sounds about right.

As a mere two-wheeler I actually find trikes more of a problem than slower riders on a crowded track because they often do funny stuff on the bends (and I'm not just talking about Ian's broadside manouevre at Lancaster).

Anyway, things seem to be looking up:

I agree with previous posts: 25 should be the absolute maximum and 20 more like the ideal number.

A piece of good news: the leisure centre definitely knows we're coming!

I have most of the timing system (i.e. the lead-lined case with the tags and, crucially, the battery charger) which I shall be taking to Shrewsbury. Does anyone know where the aerial is? Since I have the charger it may be difficult to charge the aerial battery before Shrewsbury, even assuming it can be found.
